so recently, a relative borrowed my Passat for a day or two in return for a 1994 Volvo 940 for a day or two.

Kinja'd!!!

here are a few things I’ve learned about the car since I’ve got it in my hands.

Kinja'd!!!

the paint on the hood is peeling. actually, this isn’t just limited to the paint on the hood.

Kinja'd!!!

while driving this thing, it was immediately clear that the alignment was messed up. I would have my steering wheel pointed to 10 o’clock, and the car would be headed straight. also, you needed to put the gear selector into “2" to start the car, or else it wouldn’t start. that was rough this morning when I panicked and thought I couldn’t start it up. then, i called the owner who promptly informed me of the problem. the A/C also doesn’t work in this car.

Kinja'd!!!

that’s a lot of miles, also an analog clock!

Kinja'd!!!

i’m pretty sure this is the 2.5 4cyl mated to a 4 or 5 speed. (correct me if i’m wrong)

EDIT:

2.3 4-cylinder, NA, Bosch LH-Jetronic 2.4 fuel system with EZK-117 ignition. Not a bad combination.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Being a 94, it should have the 3.73 rear end, with the AW71L transmission. (4-speed with lockup torque converter)

it has heated seats!

“made in Sweden”

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

“unleaded fuel only”

Swap the suspension bushings, align it, add turbo (which is as easy as grabbing the requisite pieces/fuel and ignition computers off a turbo car, snipping the WOT switch wire on the TPS, plug everything in and go, go, going) and it’ll run with a lot of things.

Tell your family member to do these fixes. I'm sure they'll enjoy them!

The seat heater buttons are perfect location for annoying your co-driver with by turning them on while casually resting your hand on the handbrake lever. Or just accidentally turning them on... I found out the hard way, my dad has a similar engined but manual 940 wagon!

Steering wheel not sitting straight isn’t really an alignment issue. I don’t think any car I’ve owned has had a straight one.

What's the comfort/ergonomics like?

I will say this: 1990s comforts are way different than 2000s and up comforts. also the Volvo rides very low. it's not bad, but not a place I'd spend an excessive amount of time in
